about

This is the album.

We started the band after seeing Disguise play in the Bohs bar some time in 2016. The atmosphere in Dublin was that of a neglected city, with hard fought pockets of community and joy being edged out by a sterile Dublin of endless "development". We wanted to make punk music that combined the comic voice of our lapsed podcast with the immediacy of the Dublin scene with the vitality of the local organisation seen in the gay marriage, choice and housing campaigns. We weren't good enough to do that, so we did this instead.

Vsevolod Plotkin is a collective. No one does anything and we all do everything. There are two or three people were involved in the writing, recording and mixing of this album over three years in 2 Lockkeeper's walk. Anyone who wants into the band are in the band, anyone who wants out is out. The dissolution of self into a wall of solidarity against the slow creep into techno helll.

The recording setup was dogshit drumloops played off of my phone into a USB mic, cheap out of tune guitars played through too many pedals into peaking practice amps with layers of popping vocals spoken at a low volume so we didn't disturb the neighbours. All into Audacity, layered track by track, with picks snapping across strings, makeshift mic stands collapsing mid take and lots of vocal flubs.

These tracks are a record of what Dublin was like 2016-2019. Rage, cynicism, intensity and messing. It sucked but it was good enough to try to save it.

I plan to self press a run of 25 tapes at some stage whenever we can sell them in person.
